4. Build Your Social Network

Build your foundation. - Social networking isn’t just for perverts and poindexters. Use sites like MySpace and Facebook to build an instant network of potential clients. Please (oh please), don’t just collect friends in order to sell them something, but pick your target audience, aim for them, and start weaving that web. I’m going to concentrate on MySpace for now because it’s the quickest (and cheapest) way to build a social network.

Link it all together. - Make sure that your website, your MySpace profile, and your inventory sites all link together. Try to keep people within your personal network. Even if they leave the inventory site (without buying anything), it’s still better that they remain in your network. Find reasons for them to move from site to site, but make sure you own those sites. Of course, don’t fool with people and sucker them into staying within your network. No one likes to be tricked, and people online loathe it because there’s rarely someone to confront about it.

Start making friends. - You can go through all of your friends and/or request a bunch of strangers to be your friends, but that’s wading awfully deep in the spam pool. There are a few programs out there that will manage this tedious task for you, but because they are so easily abused, the market hasn’t had enough opportunity to create a ton of innovation. I have only used a few of these programs, so there is obviously more to be known. However, I have been using FriendBlasterPro for the past few months and it has proven to be well worth the price I paid. But please, for the love of all that is holy, don’t just spam everyone in an attempt to get as many friends as possible. When it comes to these things, choose quality over quantity. You don’t want to upset people and get your account closed. What good would that do?
